Chick is making clicking noises and weird behavior!! Help!!

the brand is princes and its just regular layer feed ( its not for helping with laying or anything) and the chicks seems to be doing beter i dont really know.... and its not making the clicking noise anymore

Chicks need chick starter, not layer feed. Layer feed has too much calcium and not enough protein!

I seems to be healing....its kinda weird its more active and it just flew to the top of the bin and it eats and drinks more and no more clicking noise

Good morning lovemychicks7, I have been watching your post from late last night and the biggest thing I can see is
you need to rethink your set up for your chicks first the sand is good or alright if they are being raised by their mother
out side but in the brooder try to keep it dry by putting down some news paper to keep the dust from the sand out of
the lungs as this is not good and when I say some news paper several layers and today is Sunday next how it the
heat how are you keeping them warm a heat lamp and are they out side or in the house and the feed you only need
to use chick starter or medicated chick starter for the first 6 weeks but I go 8 to 12 weeks with the chick starter and
mix in turkey starter at about 5 to 7 weeks and the turkey starter I give them till the hens start laying eggs and the
roosters start to crow ......... When you make it to the feed store next time get a correct water and feed dispenser
these items will last for a long time as I have some feeders for my chicks for over 40 years the metal ones will out
last you and get the ones that have the hole on top for the jars to screw in to ....... Always keep plastic away from
animals now I am not saying not to use it just use thick plastic and on the bottom and well covered ......
Preventive maintenance is always the best medicine so please go back and rethink or set up your brooder as I
and every one else knows the brooder setup is very important and what you paid for your babies and the time it only
makes scents to do it correctly ..........

I have a regular brooder like you would see at a feed store and it is over twenty years old and a little beat up from
being moved around but it has had a lot of different types of birds in it .... But first lets set it up right the brooder
lets make it safe for your baby's news paper for a floor and next a top for the brooder and plenty of ventilation for
air exchange then a heat lamp but just out of reach of the little ones store waters like I wrote before from the feed
store and put this up off the floor on a piece of wood like a 2" thick x 6"wide x 8" long this is what I put my waters
on to help keep the water clean and the water is made to keep the chicks out of the water... The feed you need to
get one of the feeders like I explained earlier the jar on top helps keep the chicks off the top and getting the feed
clean from them pooping in the feeder ...... Next the chicks have a body temp of over a hundred degrees so you
do need to keep them warm with a light or heater but I am taking it you have only a heating lamp and this is
sufficient for now, if the chicks stay as fare away as possible you need to move the light away till they are comfortable
again ........ all of this is very important as the brooder is as important as the incubator meaning that every little
bit of attention needs to be paid in each step during the incubation period ...... Now your water needs some
sugar in it this helps them want to drink the water just one or two table spoons to the jar you use for the water
and if you get a medicated dehydrated water pack from the feed store this you are not going to find at Wal-Mart
and for the sick guy I think and sounds like the sand got to him but I do not have him in my hand so this part is
all your call in the end ....... medicated Chick Feed comes in a little bag and about $ 5 dollars this will last fir several
with the amount of chicks you have and when this runs out just chick starter till age 8 weeks then Turkey Starter
for the first 9 to 10 months as the protein is over 20% this is important for growth.......

You really should read up on the raising baby chicks thread as there is tons of info on all kinds of things...casportpony gave you all the meds for each illness as did Haunted55...

As for the sugar, I wouldn't use it...you could try a probiotics in the water but the sugar will cause runny poos and pasty butt.

I really recommend doing some research on the raising baby chicks thread...that thread has everything you need to know to raise your chicks in a healthy environment.

I agree with Haunted55 that it sounds like a respiratory illness, see casportpony's post to you on that and the meds for it. Both casportpony and Haunted55 both know what they are talking about.
