Yesterday, one of my two chicks died. I got them from a pet store and were sick when we picked them up. The male chicken has blue around his eyes and his eyes are shut with mucus. I used Q tips that were dipped in warm water to try to remove them, but its still there. I try to do it often.
He is also not eating normally. I tried putting his head into the food but he wont eat. I cleaned everything in the box thats in my room. The feed is Purina Starter Feed, Non medicated.
So far, he only had white wet droppings, which I assume is urine. Some of his feathers seems to be rough, like really dry or something.
I have a lamp that I put over the box and try to keep temp at 75F, but due to recommendations, I will try to increase it. All he does is sleep. I put a plush toy in there so he can be comforted.
Sometimes I take him out of the box and put him on my lap so he feels some sort of love.
Please help. I posted another thread thats basically this but I wanted to make another one in this forum. I will post a picture if needed.
[UPDATE] Mucus from the right eye has been removed, he can see from it. But theres still some on his left.
When I picked him up, I noticed small insects crawling on me, is this chicken mites? How do I remove them and prevent them?

Are you in the United States?

How old is this chick? Does it have feathers or just chick down/fuzz? A photo would help.

Flush the eyes with saline. It needs to be saline and not plain water. Eye drops that moisten the eye will work. Then put a drop of an antibiotic ointment in each eye twice a day.

Did you buy these chicks because you thought you were rescuing them? It was a kind act and your heart is good, but paying a store owner that abuses the animals they sell only keeps the evil going.
