Hi All,
Our second egg just hatched in an incubator, and it was hopping around with the shell trailing it. The shell lining and a bit of goo was attached to the cloaca of the chick. It came off (sort of) but there is blood/bleeding on the cloaca. The chick seems to be ok, but what happened and will it be ok in the long run?
thanks! we're a classroom operation so i'd like to know so i can tell the students.

Make sure the other chick does not peck at it. It should dry up and be fine. Tell the students that this is the last part to heal before the chick hatches and sometimes it looks that way. and that is the chicks belly button.
