Chick making no progress, 36 hours now

So, it has been only an hour since I removed as much of the shell as I felt comfortable with. Little one is still breathing but has made no effort to free itself. I will give it a bit longer to rest before I even try to open the 'bator again.

The shell seemed abnormally thick compared to the others' shell. I think maybe the little one wore itself out chipping.
Does it seemed oddly positioned? It almost seems as it it is slightly twisted in the shell, it is hard to tell even in person.

I would stop waiting on it to try to free itself. Intervene fully and take it completely out and get some water and electrolytes in it. It completely depleted it's energy trying to get out, if you wait any longer it will surely die.

I hope it pulls through. It's always sad to see things like this happen.

The little one in question is out and fluffing in the incubator.

Most of the yolk had absorbed, but not all, and there were a couple of minor veins that never absorbed. I think maybe this little one was slower growing, it is quite tiny. It was shrink-wrapped a bit around it's head keeping the neck pressed to the chest. All in all it was easier than I had been lead to believe LOL. I will be immensely more confident to act sooner next time!

No feathered feet so we have another Cuckoo Maran (Parent roo is clean legged) mix. I post pics later when it's cuter (kids were very concerned by this little damp thing)!!!

Update: The chick is progressing slowly. I did give it some electrolytes but it is having trouble swallowing. Unfortunately it has to be by itself for a bit, at least until it is stronger the other ones are much bigger and more active at this point.
Mother Nature is no dummy and this little one would have died do to it's size and issues had I not intervened.....but now that I have I am determined to keep it LOL. Hopefully if it makes it it will repay me by being a pullet

. I will probably have to make it some shoes, it's feet are severely twisted. Despite all that is stacked against it, it is vocal and active which bodes well.

So glad to hear it's pulling through. You have the right idea separating it from the rest. Just keep a close eye on him/her to make sure it doesn't contract any illnesses. I guarantee that with the state it's in, it's immune system is lacking. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you! Would love to see some pictures of the progress too! Keep us updated!

I hope it makes it... The feet should not be a problem, If you start looking at chicken toes you will find many deformed and crooked ones. At least in my flock. They all seem to do fine. Even the Barnyard King "Brutus, the first, great ruler of all" has a funny gait do to a twisted toe.
