Chick not sleeping, flying against box

give him a mirror, small stuffed animal or a feather duster. he'll feel more secure and should stop tweeting.

could you perhaps but 1 of the other chicks in with him? the smallest out of the big group.

Thank you for all of the suggestions, I am convinced that you saved her life. I put in a large stuffed animal because that is all I had and kept it at the lower temperature. I also put in a hand towel squished up with an indentation in it. I didn't have a mirror. Who knew a chick could get so lonely that it would kill itself to find some comfort? I didn't read that in either of my chicken books. Do you think that is what happened to the other one? The kids said it was acting the same way, so maybe. I am just sorry I didn't get on the forum sooner and save the other one and the kids some grief. I will try putting the little bantam in and see how it goes.

I'm glad he's calmed down. Was the other chick doing the same thing before it died? It could have over exerted itself or it could have just been natural causes. They don't do well on their own. Sorry you had to learn the hard way

I am pretty sure it was the same thing it was chirping loudly and it's feathers were all matted down around it's head when we found it the next morning. I don't understand because it was the two of them in there they should have been happy right or do they need more than that? I just couldn't believe it when she showed up on my doorstep with the two little babies, what was I going to do turn them away? I was happy with the ones I had been raising, I have 20 other chicks that are 4 weeks and they are all healthy and doing great, once I get rid of the extra roos I was going to have the perfect amount 14-16 birds, I didn't need anymore. She just saw the sign for them at the feed store and thought it would be cute to get a couple, she doesn't know anything about chickens or how hard it is to integrate them with the others. I wish if she was going to do it she could have gotten at least four to keep eachother company.

The Bantam is not happy in their at all, now it is chirping loudly.

I went to work and could not get this little guy out of my head, I'm sooo glad to hear that your little chick finally settled down. He was in my thoughts all day, I was trying to get online today at work to see what the status was, but both my bosses were there. Don't these guys know that chickens are more important then paying bills for the business or running to the bank to make a deposit. darn them... ha ha ha

But I'm really glad the little one is doing better, I'm not sure if I would put another chick into the box with him unless your absolutely sure he's not sick or has any illness. If he's calmed down, why not just leave the little guy alone?? Don't get him all started again. ha ha ha.. This little guy is probably going to be a rooster and he'll be the coolest one, you ever have because your already spoiling him... hee hee.. Funny part is I don't think you know you are. ha ha ha....

Are you using a heat lamp?
My chicks only settled down when it was dark except for very short naps.
Trouble is keeping them warm w/o a light....I will use a ceramic heat emitter at night if I have chicks again.

Ceraminc heat emitter keeps it warm, even in the dark. I don't use a light bulb at all anymore. I keep a light on in the room during the day and tuck them in and turn it off at night. They sleep quietly all night and are ready for breakfast and fresh water every morning. I'm talking about 3 day old chicks!! Amazing. I couldn't be happier....and they are the happiest chicks I've ever had.

No light bulb glaring in their eyes day and night...no loud brooder parties during the night!!
