Chick not walking to well

One of our chicks born nearly 3 hours ago is not walking very well, the other one born early this morning around 5:00 AM is doing great. Should I be worried?? They are both in the brooder now.

i wouldn't worry yet, some of them can be real weak the first day or so..... in my experiance, if they start drinking water n eating food then most of the time they're fine...

How long till they start drinking? I have read to not let them drink or eat too soon after hatching?? Their feed is actually in my car which my hubby has at work and he won't be home till 5:00 PM, is that okay??

when they are hatched and mailed to you from hatcheries, they don't eat until you get them home, sometimes it is more than 24 hours, and they do fine. they are still absorbing the yolk.. so they should be fine, just keep them warm and dip their beaks in water when they start moving around. is your brooder set up with water with marbles in it, and pine shavings, or pine shavings with paper towels...?? they are probably tired from hatching.

They can go up to 3 days with-out food. It's how they survive when shipped

They're going to walk

funny for awhile after they hatch. They're used to being in such a weird position.

The grate in the incubator doesn't help them walking right either, the grate

always snags my chicks' toe nails!

I'm glad they're hatching! Are they in the

brooder yet?

pine shavings are fine, and stones in the waterer is good cause a little newly hatched chick can drown. what do you have in your brooder for a light? I just use a 100 watt light bulb, and do you have something covering the top? heat needs to escape from the top or it can get too warm.

I have just chicken wire covering the top of a 30 gal. tote. Trying to keep the darn light further away because I can't get the temp to go below 98*. It is a red brooder bulb, will keep trying to move it so that I can find the right place for it.

I stopped using the Heat Lamps, they get hot. Use a regular 100 watt bulb, it should keep it warm enough, also make sure they have room to move away from the heat if they get too hot.

Okay I am going to see if I have a 100 watt bulb anywhere in my house, I think I have one of those twirly ones in a 100 W, if not then I will run down to Dollar General and pick up a pack.

I read something about the red helps them calm down, what about that???

Our dog is going a little stir crazy because she wants so bad to see what is going on, so I want to try to keep them pretty calm.
