Chick obsessed!

I'd say that I would count OUTSIDE pets. As for city chickens, I'd get at least 3.

Rehoming seems to work well for chickens and accidents happen unfortunately.

Have you looked at all the pretty show chicks, too?

What kind are you getting?

Definitely don't get a rooster if you want to stay under the radar.

I doubt mine will stay in the city long once it is time for them to go outside. But I have a Plan B to relocate them to where my herd of alpacas are staying-it just isn't as safe and I think the 3 roosters across the road will come over and kidnap all my hens and make them THEIR hens.....we will see.

I'm training mine to come for food when called, so I am hopefull on a successful outcome either way!

Cheers and happy chicks!

Those are some cute chicks!!! I'm back and forth on which breed I want, but I'm leaning towards Black Star and/or Astrolorp. I'm also a sucker for a redhead... See, this is a problem. I like ALL of them!

I agree, since the dog and the cats are really lazy and spend MOST of their time indoors, only counting outside pets makes a lot of sense. And really, since the chicks will be making eggs, doesn't that count as just part of my groceries anyway? It's my outdoor pantry!

My city zoning laws conflict directly with the city codes/ordinances that are published online. The zoning says that chickens count as livestock and 'are not allowed' in my zone for SALE or USE, and eating the eggs or chickens would count as USE. The general code says that I HAVE to BUY OR SELL at least 6 chicks.......SO.... I guess I can count them as my PETS??

As long as my dogs don't bark at them and I have them shielded from view and a low profile coop, I just want to keep them at the town location until mid September!!

But I got too many thinking that some would DIE, and so far they are all doing well. It should be easy to rehome them as PLAN C, Plan B is to move them into the barn with my alpacas and their own wired coop to protect them from the racoons and a cattle gate alongside to protect them from alpacas pronking. But those 3 roosters across the road will be coming over to 'play' with them out there, too!

But watching them grow up is LOTS of fun right now and seeing what colors they actually turn out to be. The FAWN/TAN coloring has me thrown a little in the feathering, but I'll know in another 2 weeks judging by 'Biggie Chick's growth rate'.
