chick roosting

i know that when they are chickens they need roosting poles, but do the need them as very young chicks?

Nope. They don't need any roosts when they are young.

It won't hurt to have them, they will jump up and down before they start roosting. Anything that's a distraction in the brooder is good!

Hello and

It's fine for the chicks to have a roost in their brooder, but they most likely won't use it. We had one, and the little chicks would use it as a foothold in their attempts to escape from the brooder. lol
