Chick Sexing

Someone said something about holding the chicks by their feet, and if the fly up it means I'm not sure. Has anyone heard of this? If you have; can you explain it to me. I'm confused... Right now I believe strongly I have at least one rooster, but I'd like to know for sure how many hens and roosters I got.

My chicka babies are 4wk old Rhode Island Reds.

I believe you are referring to wing sexing which can be done but with only certain breeds bred for it.

The only way is to keep a look for larger combs turning redder sooner (pullets don't get red combs till they are ready to lay). If you post pictures in two weeks members can give a guess on their gender. Also as they get older you can look for male and female tail feathering.
