We've had bad experiences raising chicks, losing many to predators, disease and sudden death, over the course of the five years we've had chickens as pets. None of our chicks live past a few years (although we've fixed the predator problem). So I'm nervous now about raising chicks. We have eight that I've just put in a small coop within the larger coop and run. They are about five or six weeks old. One has started to sneeze, so I'm wondering if this is normal. She has no runny nose or closed eyes and is eating plenty of fermented and dry feed and is active. Thanks for your time!

Hello,
If she has no mucus in her/his mouth or eyes, the chick is probably alright and he/she just has a cold. I've had many chickens with a cold and the first time it really freaked me out, I did everything (garlic+pepper in water etc.) but then a week or 2 later everything left. The next couple of times I didn't do anything and it was alright. So you shouldn't worry, but if you see any other symptoms then you should post about them.

P.s- a runny nose (NOT gooey stuff (if it's gooey it's not good) , just water looking stuff) is normal too.

P.p.s- It can spread to the other chicks like any human cold.

I hope this helped!
