Chick Throwing up?

I was watching my 5 week old chicks playing outside today and I noticed that when my golden laced wyandotte bent over to peck at the ground she had some water/spit running out of her mouth. I saw this happen twice today and once was right after she had taken a drink of water. I usually sit and watch them for about 30 min each day to make sure everyone is healthy and today was the first time I ever saw this happen. She has been acting totally normal other then that and I couldn't feel anything unusual in her neck/throat area. Also her weight seems about the same as the other chicks her age and her croup felt fairly empty. Should I be concerned?

I have seen hens over drink on hot days and when they lean over, water comes back out. Is it clear? If there are no other signs of anything wrong, I would just keep my eyes on her and watch for any other signs.

Yes it was clear ... I will definitely keep an eye on her but I think you may be right as it has been pretty warm here the last couple days. Thanks for the advice!

What happened is there was water in the crop so when the chicken bent down, there was pressure on the crop and the pressure forced the water out of the mouth.

I picked up a chicken from the waterer one day and it spewed all t the water it had just drank all over me. So if they drink a bunch and then point their head down sometimes water will come back out

My red sex link did this many times.
It freaked me put the first time because I saw her running around in a circle gurgling up clear fluid....she drank too much water and I guess shook herself up too much, lol

Me too! ... When I first saw my chick throw up I thought the worst but after posting this and hearing everyone's feedback I felt much more at ease. BYC is the best! there are so many knowledgable people willing to help.

I could not agree with you more! I have been raising chickens for over 18 weeks! in that time the great people on BYC have taught me SO much!
