I just got this free chick from my feed store yesterday. They thought that they gave me a light brahma, but once I actually took a look at her, she didn't look like one. She has five toes, feathered feet & legs. She's white, even though you can't really see in the photos. She has pink skin. I'm thinking that maybe she (or he?) is a Sultan because of the five toes & feathered feet. It seems like she has a little puff starting on the top of her head as well.

I thought there were only three breeds with five toes & feathered feet: Sultans, Faverolles, and Silkies. She's definitely not a Silkie. Any thoughts on what she might be? Sultan or otherwise?

Well we can probably rule out Silkie, but not silkie mix, because of the solid feathers on the wings. I am leaning towards Faverolles, sultans usually have more of a puff. Sure is cute though whatever it is!

One of the confusing things is that since the feed store's chick day was over, they mixed a lot of the chicks with only a few left in one bin. There were a lot of polish crested birds in the bin she came from. I wasn't paying too much attention since I was just happy they were giving me another chick for free. I got most of my chicks from them this year, and as far as I know, they don't usually carry sultans, faverolles, or silkies! I'm not sure which hatchery they used this year either.

Whew that is a bit confusing! I don't typically get my chicks from them, just way to risky!

I agree! I pre-ordered all mine and picked them up right when they came in so everyone was exactly who they were supposed to be. Oh well, I don't mind a little mystery for just one of them

That's cool I didn't know you could do that! Sure is a pretty little mystery though!

Houdans and Dorkings also have 5 toes, but it's neither of those. It's a Sultan.

It's a faverolle. I just ordered 5 of those little guys. They have 5 toes, feathered feet, beards and muffs just like your little chickie :)

Do faverolles come in all white? Most of the pictures of chicks I've seen, once their wing feathers begin to come in, there's some color to them. But I really have no idea, I have no experience with them!
