I was locking up the birds for the night when I saw this little girl(?) poking out of her Mama's feathers. Her head was weirdly lopsided, so I picked her up to infestigate. The left side of her face is swollen, and she's missing her left toenail. There is a little blood on her left wing, but no obvious wounds. (Ignore her beak. She's recovering from fowl pox.) Is it safe to put her out with Mama again? I had bigger chicks (not hers) in with them until today. All the sudden Mama began to attack them (the big chicks, not her own) yesterday and wouldn't stop so I let them out. Maybe she was doing that because they started attacking her babies? Should I quarantine her?

If it's fowl pox it doesn't matter. The whole flock has/had it already. I don't think it's coryza because she's showing no other signs. The missing toenail and blood stains lead me to believe she was bullied. I've been watching her and she acts perfectly normal. She's a bantam chick, so she's very small. The only other bantam chick is a cockerel and he's more feisty than she is. Thank you for the reply. :)
