My Australorp is back again being weird with egg laying, for about a week now she has been sitting in the nest box to lay an egg and after about an hour she hops out and starts yelling her "I just laid an egg' song, but there is no egg! Is this just her age? I thought she was maybe egg bound but its been happening for a while

Eh, if she's acting healthy then she might just be faking you out. My Buff Orp is a retired layer but when the hormones kick in she likes to put in time in the nest just like everyone else... except with no payout, and she's been doing it for over a year so clearly not eggbound.

I think i have the same situation as you with your buff orp, My Australorp is healthy and she doesn't seem to be in distress or discomfort, I think she's just ending her laying cycle, Thankyou for your help!

I have an australorp that had to live in the basement cage for a couple of months due to a broken wing. Now when she wants to come in she will wait at the back door. I open the door and she can walk all the way through the house until she gets to the basement steps to be carried down.

Even though she is done laying she still wants to come in. Especially in hot weather. She expects a dish of yogurt. If you go down to put her back outside when she isn't ready to go she will start her egg song. "I'm very busy laying the best egg ever. Please come back later!"

There is no egg. She is just faking us out so she can stay inside longer. LOL

I've got one doing the same; she's a pullet and laid her first egg in Dec, then stopped, and I'm hoping she's just waiting for the weather/light to improve before resuming. Otherwise I fear she is what used to be called a 'false layer'.
