I have a 1 1/2 year old hen - she stopped laying eggs for around a week now and she’s been acting very strange. She’s not as active very slow but she eat and drinking. She’ll randomly stand in one spot and her poop has been weird. I gave her two baths so far and check for any egg that may be stuck but she had nothing. She’s drinking water and eating a decent amount. I don’t know what could be wrong with her.

I attached some photos of how she stand and a video of her looking a little weak. IMG_7177.jpeg She’s the left chicken - she just stood like that for a bit. IMG_7076.jpeg This is her poop the first day she was acting weird- we thought she was egg bound IMG_7087.jpeg this is what it looked like the next day after two epsom salt baths

This is her poop today right now.

I’m really not sure what to do and I don’t want to lose my chicken….please help!!

What state or country are you in? Curious what the temperatures are, as this heat has been affecting hens and their laying of eggs.

What's the feed she's on?

To be on the safe side, I'd give her a Calcium +D pill, around 400 iu. She should be able to take it whole. This would cause contractions and help her expel anything she may have stuck in there. You could give her one a day for a couple more days if nothing happens the first day. If you don't have any, I'd pick some up, but in the meantime, a crushed-up TUMS will work.

When you gave her a bath, did you notice any signs of mites or worms? I wonder if worming her might be a good idea if she doesn't snap out of this soon.

If possible, take a sample of her poop to your vet to see if she needs deworming.

Check her crop to make sure it's emptying overnight. If it's not, then begin addressing that symptom. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/

If she's not laid eggs and should have, give her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily for 3-5days to see if she's able to expel any lash material or egg matter.

See that she's drinking well and eating.

We’re in Westchester, New York.

She’s on the normal 16% layer feed.

When I gave her a bath I cleaned around her vent area and she was really calm and just relaxed. I’m not sure how to check for worms or mites. I did oil up my finger and check if she was egg bound and her inside felt clear.

I will try the calcium d pill. Hopefully that will help out.

I bought some probiotic and a deworming powder so those should be coming soon just in case.

She’s drinking well and she’s eating the same as the other chickens - she’s just slower in her actions it’s weird.

I just bought the tums and I’ll crush up a 1/3 of it and do I mix with water or just give her the 1/3 piece whole

Give her a whole TUMS, pull down on the wattles, pop the tablet into the beak and let her swallow.

An update - I have a video of what she looks like when she’s sitting

She won’t eat the tums and when I mix it in her food or water she turns it away
You'll have to put the pill into the beak.

I see her breathing in the video. Chickens have 2 abdominal air sacs, it looks like breathing action of the air sacs to me.

Yes, don't ask her if she wants the Tums. Once it's in her beak she will swallow it. Don't worry it's too big, a chicken can swallow a whole mouse or frog and I have seen one swallow an entire half of an egg shell without batting an eye!
