Chicken and Fires. What to do?

So when checking on the girls, we found this. It kinda looks like a lash egg but also just crusted poop. What do you guys think it is?

Hard to tell what that is. Could be from the stress of it all. I would offer some electrolytes if you have any. Are they eating and drinking normally? If not, add a teaspoon of sugar to warm tepid water with a pinch of salt and a pinch of baking soda. They may need a little boost.

You did a great job of providing a safe place in the bathroom and securing the slippery surfaces with cardboard! If you don't have a window in your bathroom, perhaps a night light would provide enough light without the bright overhead lights.
They are beautiful birds.

My heart goes out to you and all the people affected by these fires. Stay safe. I would leave them in your bathroom until you think it's safe for them to be outside. Follow your instincts. Better to leave them inside for a few days extra to ensure better air quality. They'll be fine and will readjust once it's ok to release them outside.

For future reference, and this could be transported to wherever you leave and take them with you should the need arise. If you don't have or don't want to use heavy dog crates, what we did for hurricanes was we purchased a 4x4 square dog pen meant for outside use. We set it up in a bedroom and covered the top with a tarp so they couldn't fly out. It is completely collapsible and folds up like an accordian. Purchased from TSC. We also only have 3 chickens and they had more than sufficient space to roam about. We put a small shower stool in there for them to perch / roost on. They had more than enough head room to fly up and down. We covered the floor with a shower curtain first, followed by cardboard, followed by a ton of pine shavings. They were calm and quiet and did fine for the three days in there. I also played symphony music softly in the background and kept the room darkened with only light from the window. We couldn't let them out for three days due to high winds before, during and after the hurricanes (Helene and Milton) as I didn't want them being tossed about and slammed up against the run walls - we have an open air system. This is just a suggestion and sharing what worked well for us.

Good luck to you. God bless you all. Keep us updated on how your babies are doing.

How's your evacuation status? Does it look like you'll be able to stay put or is a road trip in order? Please keep us posted on your safety!
So far our evacuation warning has been lifted! For now we are thinking we might be in the clear but there is a second round of winds forecasted for the next few days so we’ll keep our go-bags packed until that passes. The girls got to go outside a little bit earlier today as the air quality was better but we brought them back in later. They seemed happy to run around the yard, checking on their favorite spots and pecking at the abundance of leaves that blew over in the wind.
