Hello,

We received two buff orpington chickens about a month ago, and due to our relative inexperience with this hobby, did not notice the signs of sickness until they were severe. (They have been quarantined from our other 5 the entire time.)

We went to a vet and they gave us six days of doses of trimethoprim, with the rest of the 14 day regimen that was to be mailed that week.

Started on Tuesday and we saw immediate improvement. Well, come Friday and no mail, we saw we would not have enough to get through the weekend. We went back to the vet and discovered they have not called anything in. Nothing is in the mail. They gave us a few more doses to get us through the weekend and we've confirmed that they have now called in the medicine--expected Wednesday.

It's Sunday and we only have the one dose left, and it might not be a full dose for both.

Any suggestions of what to do here? The vet dropped the ball and now we're looking at have two day interruption of a antibiotic regimen.

(The chickens themselves are still sneezing, but now only once every 10 minutes or so, and they are no longer wheezing, which is a plus.)

At 12 hour doses, that's at least a 60 hour disruption. Is that 'brief?' Five skipped doses?' Do we have to start the regimen over?

What is the drug? Can you ask the vet office to call in a prescription to a local pharmacy today? Or call another vet office where you can buy some? Just from my experience, sulfa antibiotics are not usually prescribed for such a long time. 14 days seems like a lot. What disease are they treating for?
