Chicken Babysits Broody's Nest

So...

Chick 5 hatched...

But. I found it chilled, out of the nest. :hit

Do broodys reject chicks? It must have just hatched; it was still wet. All other four chicks are doing fine hidden under their mommy's rear.

Anyone knows why this happened?

And how should I em... dispose of it? :(

Oh I’m sorry your hen rejected that chick. She must have realized that it has a defect.
This picture will give a possible explanation for her behavior View attachment 1222016
Thank you for the information. Maybe she see's something I don't see.

Is burning it ok for disposal?

Aww bummer.
Could be something was wrong with it.
I'd toss them in the trash, that small, maybe in a paper bag.
You could burn it if you want.

Sometimes, a chick will just kind of flop out from under a hen and can't find it's way back.
But won't the hen push him back under?

I will burn the chick, give it a proper funeral. I put it in a small ring box. The ground is frozen so I won't burry it. RIP little chick :(

I’m so sorry for your loss! :hugsShe is a good mama and she knows what she was doing. It may be hard for us, but she knows what she is doing
