I have a 13 year old dog who can be very naughty at times. He has attacked and killed ducks before. This afternoon when the mum was driving the family car past the chicken run. I saw Bob (the dog) attacking a hen. I got out of the car and yelled at Bob, and then I leaned down to get a look at the chicken. I was surprised to find she was still alive. She tried to hobble away from me. We took her inside and put her in an open topped box. I don't think she can stand up, but I really don't want to push her. I tried feeding her but she won't eat. Is she in shock? Is her leg broken? What should I do?
It's been four hours since she was attacked.

A lot of birds that are attacked and have no visible injuries just need time.

Mine was attacked by a dog a couple weeks ago and the dog pulled out all of her tail feathers and left her for dead.

My neighbor found her and thought she was dead in the yard. When he went to pick her up she limped off to the coop. She didn't move for about a day. After that she started eating and drinking but wasn't nearly as mobile as before, so she was definitely sore.

It's been about 2 weeks and she's just now getting back to normal.

Just watch her closely, keep her safe, and be patient. Offer her treats and goodies such as cooked eggs and sweetened yogurt, and a little sugar water.

Make sure that she does eat and drink at least a little each day. Watch her poop to make sure it isn't bloody or black.

She should make small improvements each day. If she does not make progress at least a little each day, or gets worse, then something could be wrong internally.

Monitoring her and letter her get rest is all you can do if there are no visible injuries.

Keep us posted! Good luck with her!
