Chicken/bird addicted in Germany

Butch is gorgeous! He really looks a lot like my MoJo! :love MoJo is a mutt, his dad was a barred Rock, his mom was a Rhode Island Red mix. :idunno He's just about the best rooster I've ever had though. šŸ™‚
Oooh....nice mix! Is he great because he is so friendy protective or something else? I'm currently navigating my relationship with Butch, who is somehow still going through puberty. I love him and how he is with the hens, but he isnt always good with us. But, he is my first rooster, so I'm not sure to expect. Is MoJo a dad? If yes, do you have pictures of his "kids"?

MoJo is very gentle with the ladies, he's good with the other roosters, he even "mothers" any chicks I have. He's also super sweet with my grandkids. And he's really watchful for predators. He chased off a hawk a few weeks ago, and he has all my cats afraid of him. It's cute, he even makes everyone hide when the crop duster flies over. šŸ˜„ I'll try to get some pictures of his offspring for you. :)

Sounds amazing! Butch also took to his chicks, visiting them throughout chickhood and showing them no aggression, whereas their mom rejected them. It sounds like you raised him since chickhood. Did he have any phases while growing up that he just got past or was he always docile toward people? I really love Butch and he often falls asleep in my lap...the kids call him a cuddle cock. He rarely tries anything with me but he get's in these moods that I seem to usually sense and am able to respond to before it escalates. But the kids dont see it coming, prompting them to carry a rooster stick on their way to the trampoline just in case....they dont hit him but it appears to keep him at a distance. Yesterday though, he had a run-in with my partner. Butch was free ranging with the hens and was apparently caught off guard. My partner deescalated the situation. But a few minutes later, he just charged our 4 year old from behind...and now Im getting concerned. When noticing a change in Butch a few weeks ago, I started a morning rooster training ritual that I read about on byc, and it worked.....for me...for a while. However, Ive had to call for my dog a few times to scare him off because he sometimes doesnt want to back down. But after the charge yesterday (no one got hurt, my partner intervened), we decided to keep him in the netted coop area (rather large) and not have him free range with the hens (which is at least for a few hrs every day) if we are also in the yard, but the whole thing doesnt feel right either somehow. Im conflicted and hoping, maybe naiively, that it is a phase....
