Chicken block swap due June 15th

I know. I'm not a handwork person either! I would love to be, but I don't have the patience. I would love to be a quilter, but I'm not! I want to hand stitch around these chicks, but I probably won't. Machine is quicker, and I'm running out of time!!

Did you make those ties? Good job!

Thanks, yes, I make nearly all my husbands ties, have for years. They are so expensive to buy and so inexpensive and pretty easy to make.

I'm really going to try to get mine to you on time! I have 2 1/2 blocks finished. I should have them done by the weekend. I'm off on wednesday and thursday. Btw, I used heat n bond on 1 small piece of a block. It peeled off the next day. Am I doing it wrong? I've read the instructions and I'm following them. I'm going to stitch around them, but disappointed in the heat n bond. But I'm excited about the pattern!!
Many different things can contribute to heat and bond not working.

Here are some I had to deal with-
the setting of the iron is too high
holding it too long when fusing the fabric to the H and B
using fabric softener
unwashed fabric can work sometimes and other times not
using steam
One time there was something wrong with the heat and bond I bought.

I am sure other people might be able to add to it.
Once you have it figured out it is wonderful to work with.

I'm not finished yet, and I think that this will be my last applique quilt I will ever be doing.
I think that both heat and bond and wonder under need to be stitched around if you are going to wash them at all.

I sure hope people are stitching around any fused applique. Only once in a swap did I received applique that was not stitched around.

I ended up lining my pieces w/ a thin cotton liner fabric and turning to turn all edges, pressed them to make "patches" and stitched those down. It was the easiest way I could think of to turn all the edges. Those pieces that has an open end that is where I turned, and those that were fully sewn all the way around I slit the center of the liner fabric and turned through that hole.

Kassuandra, you can also use light weight fusible interfacing and make sure the fusible part is faced out once you turn it. Then press it in place where you want it. The fusible will only help you keep it in place ofcourse you still need to sew it down. I sew it down by machine. I learned this method from Quilt in a Day. It gives a turned under look without all the work. The down size is the pieces can't be too intricate or small. It also adds a little thickness. Turned like this and how you did, then sew down by machine will hold up very well to washing. I did several quilts that way, one being my grandson's quilt.

I sat down to sew mine today, only to discover my machine is broken, WAHHHHHH.
serves me right for procrastination...but weather is pouring down so I cant work the next few days.
Sigh, its not even costume season.

Going to bush bash in my garage to dig up my 1960s singer...wish me luck

Sorry about your machine! They can be finicky sometimes. Your graph paper looks like mine with lots of doodling chicken designs on it. Love it!
