chicken blog

it is avoidable, buy your chick/anaimal supplies at a feed store. By the rest of you stuff locally. walmart isn't a good deal. Our taxes are paying there employyes health benifits. ie medicare/medicade. It's called corporate welfare and walmart gets a lot of it.

They also suck because they refuse to pay their employees anything above minium wage.Sorry we got off the topic. But still a multi-billion dollar a year company can afford to pay employees more, and offer better health care. Agian sorry for getting off topic.

Here is the latest pics of the ladies. They are fast approaching three weeks. I think one might be a a rooster. Any thoughts?

Our local grocery store owners close their store and then go to a nearby Walmart to purchase the items to restock the store shelves, so our option is buy from Walmart or buy locally and pay Walmart's price plus markup. They can get stock for the store cheaper from Walmart than from the Grocer's Supply Co. that sells to all the "mom & pop" grocers of the area because they can't turn enough volume to meet GSC's requirements to get a lower rate. Sad, but true in a lot of cases, I'm sure.

changed over to pine shavings, the chicks like to dig in it a lot. They are heading to their fourth week now. Very unruly . They like to jump up and perch on the brooder. They also like to perch on my shoulder. I haven't been pooped on yet!

Hows that rooster doing... based on my little experience and recent experience , I dont see anything there to screem "Rooster" unless someone more familiar with that breed knows different.
