I put the roos in the crockpot for 7 hours
when I pulled out the bones, they turned white - WHY? I've never had this happen with any other bird.

ALSO - and more importntly, is there any good use for chicken bones? I know the make bonemeal out of some kind of bones... are they hard to grind up? would they make good bone meal??

How old are they? Bones boiled long enough usually turn white and fall apart on the ends. Boil them long enough and you can chew though them. Nothing wrong with color change.

Yeah, nothing wrong.

I ground up the stock making left overs and gave this to the chickens. The bones were soft enough to grind in the blender. Not sure it is ok to give them 'their own' but they loved it and my one chicken needed the nutrition as she is recovering from impacted crop. Don't know about making meal.
