Chicken breathing with mouth open. Not active

Apologies that I am not an expert either but just wondering what her crop feels like? Is is really full and hard? Empty? Full but squishy?

Her breathing may just be as a result of her being in stress, not an actual breathing difficulty.

What is your weather like at the moment? Runny poops like that can be a sign that she is suffering from the heat and drinking a lot; they can also be a sign that she is not eating enough.

Sour or impacted crop can cause her to not be getting enough nutrition.

Another thought could be gape worm. Intestinal worms can also cause runny poop; has she been wormed?

If she is a couple of years old I assume she has been laying eggs, has she laid recently? Does she appear to be straining at all?

I'm not sure if I found her crop or not it was a very small lump super hard where I thought her crop would be it was about the size of a quarter. The weather has been kinda weird some days sorta got some cold we are changing into fall. She is laying though we have a lot of hens that lay so I'm not sure if she is laying. We don't worm our chickens at all though I'm sure we could worm her if it helps

Hey Egglayer1234

I am sorry you are going through this and I wish I could be more helpful but as I mentioned, I am not an expert and simply ruling out things or looking for causes as I would if it was one of my gals.

If it is early morning where you are, her crop should be reasonably empty. If it is late in the day, it should feel full from the day’s food intake. So a small empty crop in the morning is good a full crop in the morning is not. A full crop at the end of the day is good, an empty one is not.

Chickens handle cooler weather better than hot, so if it has not been hot, that is probably ruled out.

Worms or internal parasites can cause some of her symptoms.

dawg53 is quite good with Gape Worm and he has made a couple of recommendations on this thread:

There is a good article on Worms in the Learning Centre:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/internal-parasites-parasitic-worms-in-chickens

While she could also have the symptoms of a respiratory disease, these may also be worth checking out:

Thank you very much any help is always helpful. It is late at night here. Thank your for the links I will look through them and see if any match what's wrong with her and hopefully get her back to a happy healthy chicken :)

You can try a dewormer like valbazen (treats a wide variety of worms), you can find a lot of useful dosage instructions here on the forums, you could also try wazine (treats round worms).
I do not think you can use a dewormer and an antibiotic at the same time, a more experienced person would have to advise you on that.
However, if she is having trouble breathing I would go for the antibiotics first. Either tylan or duramycin, tylan is better from what I've read on the forums. She probably has a virus.

How would I know for sure if it's gapeworm? Her symptoms sound like it. It sounds like it could be respitory or gapeworm. Also @Zinniah were would I get the antibiotics?

I found this on another post here about gape worms: Use a Q-tip and stick it 1 inch down the chickens throat, gently swab and gently remove the Q-tip. If you see a red in color "Y" shaped worm on the Q-tip, you have gape worms. Wazine doesn't work for gape worm, so get valbazen or ivermectin.
You can find all the medications i mentioned at your local feed store most likely, if for some reason they don't have it you can order it or have them order it. (you can call and ask them if they have it in stock ahead of time)
