Chicken Breed Focus - Cochin

They must be famous for their feathers on their legs because I always thought there was something wrong with them until someone told me that's how all of them are.

Here are my two girls Gwen & Kay they are about 7 weeks old.

I would love to try these birds if for no other reason than their temperament, but how do you deal with those feathered feet? We are in the middle of a torrential downpour right now and due to the slope in our yard the runs get wet no matter what we do. I can’t imagine those beautiful leg feathers getting all muddy and stuck together :-O

I believe for the comfort of the bird, you'd have to have a mostly dry run. None of mine seem to care if their feet are wet or dry, but I doubt they'd like mud caked on the foot fluff.

My daughter & her calico! She is, by far, the sweetest little hen I have ever encountered.
Precious! Aren't they the best?! My daughter is 4 and she carries them around everywhere. They seem to rather enjoy it.
