Chicken Breed Focus - Olandsk Dwarfs

A small bantam sized bird from Sweden, Olandsk Dwarfs are a rare breed developed on the island of Olands, from landraces known as British garden hens common to the area. Their numbers were reported to have dropped as low as 50 in the 1980's. They were imported into the US by Greenfire Farms in 2012, and they are becoming popular in the US. They are an attractive ornamental breed, make good pets, and are a good choice for someone with limited space looking for a friendly little bird. They are said to be quite flock oriented.

The hens are fair layers of small white eggs, they will go broody and make good mothers. In the US they have single combs and clean legs.

They are very colorful birds that usually come in a splashed or spangled pattern in various colors, including red, black, white, yellow and gray.

I just hatched a little hen a few weeks back. She started in the bator a few days after some larger breed eggs I set, so I was hesitant to mix her in with them since the were triple her size by the time she was born. However, I had 5 serama babies hatching a few days after her, so I opted to put her with them. she is about twice their size now but still very small (they are seramas afterall). She is so cute with them too, like their little mama bird. They try to cuddle under her and she certainly tries to let them, but she is just too small for that!! So cute and such a personality!

She is a great bird, I can't wait to get more eggs!!

I have another rare breed: Naine de Tournaisis. These Tournaisis look like as they are about the same breed as the Olandsk Dwarf . Even the eggs look the same. Only the chick above looks different from when mine where chicks.

The colours change over the years. The weigh about 700 grams. And the eggs are about 35 gr.
Anyone know what the specs of the Olandsk Dwarfs are?

When mine was just born, she was very much a little chipmunk. :)

Not sure of the specs bit I do agree, your birds look very much like these. Super pretty!! That big rooster is just gorgeous!!
