Chicken Breed Focus - Orpington

Pics
I wanted a dual purpose bird my wife wanted pets. After studying all the breed characteristics and drafting a chart. Orpingtons seem to cross off all the lists. The fact that my favorite dog is a St. Bernard, my favorite cat is a creme colored Main Coon, my favorite horse is the Clydesdale; you can probably see a pattern evolving. I like larger breeds and lighter colors.
With my wife's wants as the priority.
So I have Buff Orpington and Buff Brahma pulletts, and a Buff Brahma cockeral.
Wish me luck.....

i had a buff orpington. her name was karen. she was my very 1st chicken. i bought her with 4 ducks and a feed store. i loved her temperment and personality.

she was one of the sweetest chickens i have ever had. i was getting excited to show her at the fair. but sadly during the night when she was 4 months old she got eaten by a raccoon.

so i cant say her egg laying rate and how good the eggs are but i will say that every body should try raising orpingtons. they are one of the best breeds.
My sincerest sympathy in reference to your little lady. I can imagine her spryness and that golden sheen, oh my. Which reminds me that I'd better run out to check on my girls. We've got a stray pup hanging around, who is quite inquisitive of my flocks. I don't trust him, even though the girls are confined. I've called the police and Animal Control several times but... my flocks are my business and I pride myself on being a good Chicken Mama.

I have some 5 week old Buff Orpington pullets and they are the sweetest out of the bunch. They come running when I enter the coop and need their hugs.
Mine are now 9 weeks old and they are the same way. They want petted and cuddled. Sometimes they will fly up onto my shoulder if I’m not giving them enough attention. I think it’s orpingtons from here on out for me!

This is my new and only Orpington, a Silver Lace named Guin. I'm obsessed with their big fluffy body type and silver lace is my favorite feather pattern so I'm looking forward to seeing how she grows. So far she is a docile, almost timid chick. I have a feeling she will be fairly low in the pecking order. View attachment 1743607
Danceswithronin, do you have any updated pics of your silver lace? Would love to see her!

Here are my 16 week old Brahmas and Cindi Lou my wife's Buff Orpington.
I wish my wife had taken the photo a few minutes earlier when Cindi was sitting on my arm with her head in my lap.
But you can still see Rodger perched on my foot.
I hope you can see it.
Apparently I don't have permission to view it...lol

Updated photos of my silver laced English Orp Guin! She was very sad because I kept kicking her out of my lap to try and get some good pictures (she's a snuggle addict).

She is about two and a half months old here.
