Hi all,

My "Murray's Choice Layer" flock is almost 7 weeks old now, and I need help to identify which breed are they. :)

1. all white
2. yellow
3. orange-brown
4. orange-brown with dotted patterns
5. same as 4, from a different angle
6. brown chicken, baby chick had a chipmunk look. Is she turning into a rooster?...
7. all gray chicken
8. black and white. baby chick was black on the back and yellow on the chest. She is the smallest of them all.
9. all black, maybe a black star?
10. group dinner. :D

OMG you could use the dinner pic as the background for a clock! Put a set of hands on it....

Sorry 6 doesnt have red-orange eyes not Ancona
Of the 4 mottled varieties that are possibilities for this chick, only Mottled Japanese bantams have brown eyes. So if it is a bantam then that is what it is. If it's a large fowl, then Ancona or Exchequer Leghorns, and never mind the eye color, since hatcheries often produce birds that don't completely match the standard. I don't think it is a mottled Java, and they are supposed to have reddish bay eyes, too.

1 maybe white rock or Leghorn.

2 red sex link or maybe starlight green egger

3 either Cinnamon Queen or some type of Easter egger

4 probably brown Leghorn cockerel

5 probably Sapphire Gem

6 Ancona, unless it is a bantam.

7 Not sure on this one! Probably some type of hatchery hybrid. Not a black star.

Agree with this mostly. McMurray has Whiting True Greens instead of Starlight Green eggers and Blue Sapphires rather than Sapphire Gems, but they're essentially the same thing for the purposes of a backyard flock. OP, can you get side shots of the birds lacking them, especially that last mostly black one?

Most chicks hatch with dark eyes that turn bluish, greenish, or brownish until they're several months old. My Ancona didn't get her orange eyes until she was about 5 months old, looking at her pictures from when she was that young. Baby and juvenile eye colors are rarely what their adult eye color will end up being.

Edited to add some thoughts.
