Chicken breeders or Folks in South Africa?

@Nanna34 shame if he's a border collie and only 4 months surely you can train him? I had a rescue staffie mix who attacked everything from horses over sheep to actually eating guinea fowl feathers, feet and all. when I first got chooks he used to stand at the fence shaking and staring at them. today he actually gets chased down the passage when my Bun is broody and waits for them to walk through the door in front of him. It did take a few good smacks though, but with time and careful supervision he just got used to them and realized they were part of the family.. I guess the chicken sleeping in the bed and on the couch where he's not allowed also helped. I just can't believe that an intelligent young dog like that couldnt be trained.. unless you have a really nice home for him to go..

We found a really good home for him, the thing about collies is once they start killing they don't stop. No amount of training will get that out of him, he is useless as a working dog then because nobody will want him.

I'm taking him this weekend, we have to keep him inside because he keeps breaking through the fence to get to the chickens now.

Hi guys

Been awhile but have been so busy trying to get parents in care homes. Managed to sort father in a lovely home - just got to sort Mum now but she is so sick at the mo and to move her would be too cruel - I'm still stressed out and lots to do selling house and 40 years of 'stuff'.

CF sorry failed miserably on chicken front - but hopefully will get eggs home when I eventually make it. But I did get the worm meds 'Flubenvet' and got so much enough to worm the whole of ZA. Sending DHL to hubby not sure if you want but it seems good stuff. The vet here is from the Eastern Cape!! and assured me that it works brilliantly. One sachet will last a whole year and i have lots - so daft but had no idea when i ordered it. Just let me know know if you want some and hubby will make a plan to meet you.

Apparently Molly is sitting on 12 eggs and she has just had mini Mol who is beautiful can't show pics because its on 'whats app' and so techno challenged wouldn't know where to begin.

Love all the pics and bush pig, nothing remotely African here except Foxes and squirrels and rain and more rain - the sun just doesn't shine here at all EVER very depressing country all round - miss home and my chooks have total withdrawal symptoms - wonder how Raptor is doing?

@whoop whoop I have been thinking of you, i would be very interested in the worming stuff , would deff make plans with your hubby to get hold of some, sorry for the stress you going through I hope things will go better soon, i'm sure we all miss you here too with updates on your chooks, good luck with molly hatching that would be great for when you get home, good luck further and I hope you are able to come home soon.

@whoop whoop so nice to hear from you, we have been missing you as colin fow says. Hope everything works out over there and you re home soon. Good luck with the 12 mini mollies!! We re thinking of you!

@whoop whoop that great about your dad, really sorry about your mum, I hope that she gets better and all comes right. I thought that Molly was still almost a baby, never knew she had started laying yet. Raptor is doing well, still perky and all, but he's still sleeping outside, but our coop at home should be ready within the week so we'll be bringing him home very soon, and hopefully if it's just him and the little ones he won't mind staying in the coop. Also it a smaller area so maybe I can force him in and hopefully he takes to it. I'm planning on taking a break this weekend from studying and coop building to go visit him and the girls, I'll upload some pics then so you can see how he's progressed, he's gotten a lot bigger, quite the sturdy little guy, and one quick question, is he a bantam or standard? Thanks :)
The girls are now about 15 weeks old, so according to what I've read they are due to start laying around my birthday, would be great birthday present if I got my first egg then, although I wouldn't complain if it was sooner.
Once again, hope all goes well that side and that you make it home soon and safely, and that all the chooks are doing well in your absence.

I'm not quite in South Africa, but is Kenya close enough? I have a question about Mongoose proofing my chicken coop and thought maybe one of you could help me as you also have the little critters down there. Can I use chicken wire or will the mongooses just got through it?

Gosh, we do have another Kenyan on BYC after all

!!! Where abouts are you in Nbo? I'm in Gigiri. I have some Kienyeji hens and some KARI Kienyeji chickens that i am breeding (use the regular Kienyejis to hatch) - just a hobby, nothing money making.

Let me know where you are please!
Asante sana
