Chicken cannibalism took my chicken, how to prevent from spreading?

Getting rid of the cannibal is a solution!

How is that not friendly? I was not mean about it just matter of fact. If you have a chicken that kills your other chickens that’s a bigger problem than worrying about how nice the solution sounds.

True, but all chickens ARE cannibals to some degree.
If you put any piece of meat in front of them, cooked or not, steak or chicken... even broken eggs, they'll eat it.

Actual cannibalism didn't seem to be the problem here. The OP didn't know how it started and didn't notice one particular bully as the culprit. It's a natural behavior for all chickens to peck at another's injury, so figuring out the cause of injury seems like a more productive solution, especially since this was happening over the course of a few days.

There is almost always an underlying cause for cannibalism in a backyard flock. Now if there was one particular chicken going around killing and eating other chickens for no reason, that would be definite cause for culling.

I need help I have one chicken that is just laying down most of the time. The past three days. She is not egg binding. I checked. She is eating and drinking righ now. What else could it be.I am at a loss and I love my chickens and don't want to lose her PLEASE HELP

You need to start your own thread. It will be viewed differently than this one. And you won't be taking someone's thread from them. Hope you get the help you need!

Hi, I don't think you have to worry about the others eating anyone else. Your red girl got picked on because she was already hurt and chickens are pretty mean when one is not doing well. I'm very sorry you lost one, in the future when one is injured try to seperate even if you just put a cardboard box with holes over the injured one so the others don't bother her. :hugs
