Chicken compost question

If I were to use sand so I could Scoop the Poop out would that be bad for the compost? Or what would be a better bedding that is good to mix with compost to put in the chicken coop?

I use pine shavings in my coop. I don't know whether the sand would adversely affect the poo composting, although of course it wouldn't break down in the compost. Hopefully somebody who uses sand can give you some feedback as to what they do.
