Chicken coop build 8’ x 20’

I think it’s the gable end overhang not a gable soffit. Sorry for the improper terminology. The Purlins were laid flat on top of the rafters. We blocked in between the Purlins on the front and back rafters and the one interior wall rafter so there’s no gap. We could take out the blocks and that would create a small bit of extra ventilation.

Much easier to add it to the gable end. And your gaining a couple sqft of ventilation, not a few sg inches for your time.

Haha. I knew it wasn't the right terminology.

I’m at work so can’t get a picture of my coop. Here’s a picture and I’ve circled the area that represents the blocking in between the Purlins that I’m talking about. We could knock that out on the coop walls. It’s only 1.75” so wouldn’t give us much ventilation.
I see....that might help, but you'd be better off removing a triangle in the gable wall up near the roof. Google gable vents to get an idea.

You could remove a larger triangle at the gable end that's under the run roof as it would be well protected..

Snow might not be a huge issue in your area, but I figured I'd mention it. I'd add a large vent in the inside gable as the roof would shield the vent from driving rain.

Yes, this.

We can definitely add venting to upper triangle peaks of the gable ends.

I'll have to search BYC to see if there's a way to hardware cloth the small openings if we remove the gable soffit blocks. Not sure how that would work with the metal roof since we can't screw into it.

Don't bother with small openings. Take a nice-sized triangle out of the peak. To get 1 square foot in a triangular shape it needs to be 1 foot tall and 2 feet wide.

Didn’t get much done yesterday. Neither one of us were feeling it after a stressful Monday at work. We installed the fascia and talked through the ventilation and the best way to install hardware cloth under the soffits.

We put the blocking up between the rafters in the run. 5212A8DA-BC98-4028-963C-871030745D58.jpeg

We’re still talking through the best way to attach hardware cloth to the soffits on the coop portion. My husband doesn’t like the unfinished look of just attaching it to the rafters with screws and washers. He’s thinking a small frame around the hardware cloth would make it looked “finished.”

Tomorrow, we’ll tackle the last of the framing on the gable ends.
