Chicken coop not big enough??

My chickens were actually laying more eggs a month ago when it was cold than they are now. Then they would hang out under the porch for shelter, and I would give them lots of feed to stay warm. So they had lots of protein. Now I don't do that and they free range all day. But bugs aren't out and plants aren't up yet, and they don't go to the coop to get high protein feed much.

Maybe your birds aren't getting as much feed as they need because of the overcrowded conditions.

That may be where your eggs are.
Where is the feed and water kept?

I have a 7 pound feeder and a large waterer in the coop
Very seldom do I let them go dry. And every morning I throw out scratch
And about 2 weeks ago I started my fermenting and put my 7 gal waterer outside
And yes I have found eggs out in the hollar but they really haven’t been out there much when it’s cold and rainy.

They are 4 years old and younger so maybe for some age is a reason

This is the biggest reason. Production drops as they age.

Even in an ideal environment an old chicken simply will not lay as much as a young one.

yep mine stopped by 4 years of age, and even earlier if they are warrens.

the coop is to small for 32 chickens. build on to the current coop to make it 128 square feet. your nest should be off the ground, are they?
