Yep! I found a huge pile of old tiles in the desert out back of our wall, and I felt that I should do something with them instead of just letting them go to waste! Rescued tiles I call them. At least they are no longer trash in the desert.

I just made this for someone and shipped it out. They made it all in one piece. I was so happy. He called it Moon Chickens.

Again, I will say if anyone would like any of the ones I have made, or have a few made for yourself just send me a message on here!

How do you get the paint to stay on them? My daughters tried painting some Mother's Day tiles and the paint scratches off so easily.
I LOVE the Moon Chickens!

One of things I love about painting on tile is the fact the paint is so easily removed before it dries. If you make a mistake it is easy to wipe it right off. I use Acrylic paint, nothing expensive. You have to be patient when painting tile and let the paint dry before you try to apply layers to get a rich solid color. With the Acrylic paint, once it dries, I have no issue with it coming off the tile. I can scratch at it with my fingernails and it stays in place. When it needs clean use a damp cloth, no cleaners. For the tiles I send out in the mail I do use a Spray Fixative. You can buy it at any craft store. My Spray is used for pastels, pencil, charcoals, but I have found it works just as well to help the paint stay on the tile. You spray it over the paint once you are finished painting and the paint is dry. You MUST spray outside or everyone in the house is gonna get a little...let's say loopy.

I only bother to spray the ones I send out to people. The tiles I have at home have no spray, and I haven't had an issue with the paint coming off. I think another key to painting on tile, at least with Acrylic paint ( I don't know if that is the type of paint she is using) is not to put too much on. If you pile it on it will flake off no matter what you do. The spray will help to fix the paint in place though. ^^ Good luck to her and her craftyness!

I charge 25 for three, that includes the cost of shipping and handling. And yes I do, do requests! We could discuss the cost if you only wanted one or two, or more.

There is also a "ceramic" paint that you can get.. it's similar to an acrylic but to get it to "stick" to the tiles you need to bake it.. I've never used it but I have a friend who has.. she used her home oven to bake the paint on and said it worked great.

I asked her which paint she used... she said that "Pebeo Porcelain 150" paint was her favorite... but she has also used another brand that was labeled as a "glass paint"... the main thing she said to look for is one that works well on glossy surfaces and calls for the tiles to be baked in the oven to make the paint more permanent[FONT=arial, helvetica, geneva, sans-serif]... Yineup is absolutely right! There is a plethora of products you can use. Even if you have no idea what you want! I'm sure if you go into any of your local craft stores and explain you want to paint on ceramic they will be able to help you! I use acrylic simply because it is the medium I work in other than charcoals and graphite, and I have it! A word of caution if you are using re-purposed, or recycled materials as I am. I would be wary of heating reclaimed tiles unless you know exactly what they were used for, what type of adhesives/ chemicals they were exposed to during their life time before they were trashed. Even after a nice power washing mine still have little bits and whatnots left over on the back. It is such a fun hobby though. I hope you find what works for you! ^.^

I wish I could find old tiles like you did! When my girls painted theirs we bought plain tiles from Lowes!
