Chicken destruction

If I have 3-4 chickens in a 20x24 ft run, will they turn it into a brown wasteland? How much damage do a few chickens do? The chickens will be large breeds and the area that will be the run is currently just grassy lawn.

Generally, yes they will turn it into a wasteland. But, it will take 3-4 chickens awhile to do so. They will love that grass till it’s all gone.

"Grazing frames" can protect the greenery from total annihilation....or you can use deep litter and introduce greens via fodder trays

My run is 20x25. Took 4 hens around 2 years to completely wipe it out - that's with careful management of half the run (split run) to minimize the amount of grass destruction.

I threw in the towel on the grass once I got a larger coop and more chickens.
