chicken died last night, can I eat her now?

What about if it freezes to death over night? I know that’s not the op question, but a very real possibility this morning.
If she was healthy the day before, I'd try. But I'd be suspicious too.

Bigger concern is why she froze. Weather proof the coop more. Wind blocks. Chickens are freeze resistant but have to have dry, wind resistant areas to fluff up and stay warm.

Hope your birds are doing well.

Thank you! I just got back inside and everyone’s alive! We have four young hens that haven’t been introduced to the flock yet and they are in a tractor. I was a bit nervous that they were too exposed. Phew. Looks like that’s the coldest we’ll be for a while so hopefully by next cold spell they’ll be in with the flock! Thanks again😊

Is eating the bird and economic issue or a moral issue? I wouldn’t eat it unless in had to and if so I guess the smell test and Extra through cooking would be my strategy.

If it’s a moral issue I would be happy to use it for compost, plant it under a tree, or use it for a predator trap/bait. If you think it is not related to disease you could boil it outside and feed it back to the chickens.

I wouldn’t do some of these things personally as they are not worth the risk to me, but just tossing out ideas.
