This morning I am sitting in my recliner enjoying some nice hot coffee while the chickens are enjoying some spagetti and beef strips. The 6 1/2 month old, soon to be chicken dog is outside playing. I look up and I see this big ole crow swope down towards my picture window about 12 feet from the chickens and here comes the chicken dog to the rescue............
911 whats your emergency?
There is a crow looking down at us chickens!
Hang on......... I will send a protecter.
hahahahahahaha so here comes the german shepherd puppy to the rescue running to her chicks. She sits down next to the chicken run and stared at the treed crow. The crow jumped to another tree and the chicken dog ran 15 feet after it again and sat down and stared at it. Then the crow left peacefully. Chicken Dog is learning. I am so proud.

She was quite proud of herself after she chased off the big bad mean predater. She went right over the chicken run and grabbed a bungy cord like "I am strong and powerful!"
The ladies looked at her like she was a fool and I went outside and told her to knock it off. Thats the chickens house!
Never a dull moment with all these critters.

Picture taken a few weeks ago when we had lots of snow. You can see chicken dog is beating up a basketball next to the chickens.

We too have a chicken dog in the works! WGSD, and he loves his girls

However, at 7 months old...he is in training for sure.

Great story.....he lays out by the run, and has a special girl. Our Delaware hen has fallen smitten with him
and he with her. For hours they will just sit, stare off, and every once in a while she will stick her foot out and
he will lick it.

At first, I always watched from the window because we all know the stories of things that could happen. But after
a while, I didn't keep such a watchful eye.

And one day, I happen to pass the window and saw Timber (shepherd puppy-5 months) IN the chicken run! He broke their
fence and was just sitting in there pretty as could be. And of course my girls aren't afraid and are just pecking around his feet!
I ran out, but you should have seen the look on his face! Like "What Mom?"

I think we have a chicken dog keeper!

What a good dog!

We have a chicken-dog, too. A lab-beagle mix. By all rights she should be a chicken killer. But her favorite place to be is out in the yard with the chickens. They scratch around in the straw and make little nests. (The dog AND the chickens.) And every now and then I will look out and see a chicken perched on the dog. I just roll my eyes. I think she knows where those scrambled eggs she enjoys so much come from.

I am glad you liked the story. I was quite impressed with her paying attention to the intruder being to close to the ladies. Here she is at 5 months old sitting next to the chicken tractor. I swear she is 1/2 German Shepherd and 1/2 Donkey!

I do believe all 4 chickens will be able to stand on her back when full grown. Ha! Now that would be a great picture!

How cute! When I see the girls perched on the dogs back, I picture them thanking me for their feet warmer. Cause that's the only reason for the dog to be hanging around anyway. For their personal use, of course.

What a gorgeous dog! Drooling all over the desk here!

My dogs hunt and eat chickens when they get the chance, like when the roo flew into their pen. Stupid, stupid roo!

My golden retriever was lying on the back step yesterday and the Golden laced wyandotte went up to him and sized him up. I thought she was going to jump onto his back but instead she decided there must be bugs or worms hiding in that furry tail so she scratched and scratched around in his tail. He ignored her so after a minute with no bugs showing up, she decided they must be higher up on his backside so she gave him a couple of good scratches. He was very offended but knows he can't chase chickens so he looked through the door at me and said, "Get me out of here" so I let him in, while laughing out loud. Good Chicken Dog.
