She is a 23 and a half week old RIR.

She was checked thoroughly on Monday for mites/lice and was fine.

Not eating. Crop feels empty and squishy. Yesterday she ate normally, scrambling for treats.

Layer feed free choice mixed with cayenne pepper, oyster shell free choice, grit free choice. Treats yesterday were plain yogurt, and rolled oats with some bird seed. Free range about 5-6 hours a day in an enclosed yard.

Not drinking. ACV in water daily.

Wattles look healthy and red. Earlobes are a little pale.

Eyes look bright and normal. No cloudiness.

Seems alert, but....

Sits in the corner. Tail down, moving slowly.

Abdomen feels normal. No eggs, lumps, or fluid. She has not started laying yet.

Poop= I am waiting to see. I have a sneaking suspicion they are enormous, normal color, mushy consistency, and wet. (My kids noticed a giant poo last night and had to comment about its size.)

It is hot here. 96* this afternoon. Unfortunately, their coop is hot. Upper 80's. They have a fan, ice water, and lots of shade. It's just hot.

She is currently isolated in our tank room. It's nice and cool there. I am going to the pet store to see if I can get some bird electrolytes.

Any other ideas??????

Thanks!

How long should it be before she poops?

What do I do if she isn't drinking anything? I want to get her some electrolytes, but I don't know how to get them into her if she won't drink them herself.

first go easy with electrolytes
and you have to administer the water by beak opened and squirting it in the throat
use a lare eye dropper of childs ear syringe
and put the tube to the right back of throat

probably need to take her to the vet

if not then do what you can to make her comfortable

any questions email me

Any one else???

what amt of eggs has she laid?
and also does she have a empty crop?

if so she could be egg bound
and not eating denotes E.coli infection in the gut

so needs to have some Vit E 1-1000 ,g and Vit B comples put in her beak and maybe in some water and eye dropper down the throat

make sure she is getting some food
take and beat a egg yolk and eye dropper it into the beak
as a liquid food
just do the egg yolk three times a day
add several drops of olive oil with the egg yolk
this may help the egg binding problem also
any questions email me

She hasn't started laying yet, as far as I know. We have had someone dropping shell-less eggs on the roost overnight, but I do not know if it is her.

Yes, her crop is empty. She pecks a little at food, but doesn't eat anything.

She also has no interest in water.

A trip to the vet isn't possible, so we will do the best we can with her and let nature take it's course.....whatever that may be.

OK, I took her out in the sun and looked her over really well, and I can't see any mites or lice.

She also pooped all over me as soon as I picked her up. It was large, dark brown, white, some undigested millet, and some pink stuff. Not blood, just pink stuff. It was a medium on the consistency scale. Formed, but really soft. It ran down my shirt. It smelled really bad though. I don't think the smell was any worse than normal though.

Anyway, some pecking at her food. Still hasn't touched her water. Tried to peck at some grass outside when I was looking her over.

Also, her vent is still closed.

I'm off to take a shower now. I smell like the back end of a chicken!
