Hi there, on March first I was given a chicken egg. I didn’t have an incubator so after many YouTube videos I decided to try to hatch it with a lamp... After many days I’m worried it’s not going to hatch. I’ve been trying to figure out if it’s still alive so I did the float test. I did it a day ago and then I did it again and today something is showing up in the air cell 😔😭 but it was still moving in the water. Somebody PLEASE tell me if I should give up or if it’s okay🥺🐥

Ha ha ha... I feel very dumb but I basically put a lamp facing the egg with some water on the side 🙄 idk if it worked but everything seemed fine until now
Don’t feel dumb. I just have never heard of it before. It’s ok to try something new. And you never know, this could be a really great method. A woman on here almost hatched an egg with her boobs. Good luck! Sorry I can’t help you with the egg I don’t really know about incubation.

oh wow that’s interesting & do you think I should try opening the egg? I read that someone opened it through the air cell and it survived

I think it was definitely alive at one point. I get those spots in the air cells too sometimes, I dont think it's amything to worry about. What day is your egg on? It doesn't look very alive to me...

No don't open it, if it is alive it will die. They dry out a lot, and it allows in bacteria. Its generally a bad idea, if one survived it is a rarity

It’s already past 21 days :/ but when I did the float test it was moving for sure

Okay but could it explode? I’m afraid of that happening

It's a goner then, sorry. The float test is horrible. Just to test it I put a 15 day quitter in who I knew was definitely dead in a dish with water, and it wiggled a whole bunch too! I opened it up - rotten. I have zero faith in that test, I'll never do it again. Its super unreliable at best, youd have better luck reaching into a hat and pulling out dead or alive cards than float testing. I'm not trying to be mean, just I don't trust the float test. I would open it up. I do think it could, I would make a small hole when you open it and let out the pressure, then open it up. I have had some eggs die very early, they usually never explode.
Edited- I typed this on my phone, had a few typos
