Hi! I have a a couple questions but I’ll give a backstory first. I have 4 chickens and 2 ducks. 2 of the chickens are only 3 months old so they are in a coop for a few more weeks but the other 2 chickens and 2 ducks free range during the day. At night, they go into a 10x10 dog kennel that has the coop with the new chickens and another empty coop. I’ve been doing this for a couple months now because we had a possum that killed 2 chickens so they are now locked up at night. A few days ago one of my chickens was giving a loud warning call around 4am (the same one she gave when the possum came) so I ran outside and one of my chickens had gotten out of the kennel and had a gash on her wing so I assumed it was the possum but didn’t know how the possum would’ve gotten in. I thought maybe I left her out of the kennel that night. Then, the other night the chicken gave the warning call again at the same time and the same chicken that’s injured got out again and is now limping. I am almost certain there are no animals getting in the kennel at all. Her gash seems to have healed just fine and there’s not blood or wounds on her leg so how should I go about treating that? Also, anyone have any ideas why she’s trying to get out of the kennel? I would say she’s at the top of the pecking order because she is the oldest and always picks on the other chicken so I don’t think there’s any fighting going on between the chickens and ducks in the kennel.
