Hi all, there’s been a specific chicken in my flock for maybe a month now (cas) , and I’m still not completely sure of the sex or breed. One of my younger chicks escaped out from its pen into cas’s field, and cas puffed up its neck feathers and went for my chick. Is this a pointer to what sex cas is? Thanks

Males and females both will fluff out their neck feathers when upset. It's their way of looking/acting big and tough. My broody currently does this when protecting her nest. I've seen others do it when squabbling over a treat.
