Chicken Fright

Today I was just sitting out in the balmy sunshine being entertained by my chickens. All of a sudden all five of them froze in their tracks and stayed that way for several minutes. They did not move a feather until I rose from my seat and then they ran underneath an outbuilding with the rooster registering loud frantic squarks. What on earth could have terrified them so?
