This afternoon i went down to feed the girls and gather up the eggs. When i lifted up the door to get the eggs out of the nesting box my smallast hen was sitting in there, i didnt think anything of it so i left her alone. She did hunker down and get here self flattend out as much as possible. I just went about my business and she didnt get out of the box for food, only to get water for a second and then to go running back to the box. I did peek in there and there is 4 nice large brown eggs.

So is she broody or just layin on a bunch of eggs?

pat her back. if she growls and rufffles up she's broody.

Yes, and stays on the nest all night. Getting herself flattened out is also typical of a broody.

Well it was a false alarm, i went down there yesterday evening and she was off the eggs and they were colder than ice cubes. But i do current have a huge white hen that is sitting and flattened out but dosent growl or ruffle, so ill aite a little longer and go back down there to c if she is stilll sitting. Now i know she has to be fertile cause ive watched her and the roo. Pluse her feathers have footmarks on them from all the mud theyve been in.
