Chicken having trouble breathing

I couldn't find any wounds, but I cleaned her nostril out. It didn't help any though.

This is so sad. Every hour her breathing gets worse and I can't figure out why. Ugh! She is my favorite chicken too, if only she would just stop picking fights with the dog, everything would be fine.

did the dog clamp down on her from under her jaw to on top of her head? or could it have bitten into the sinus cavity? I don't know do chickens have sinus cavities? you know ours are in our foreheads.. just looked at chicken anatomy too and didn't see sinus cavity there. Sure wish you could get in touch with your neighbor before it's too late..

The injury I immediately noticed was on top of her head, to the left of her comb. There is a bump that has formed nest to her wound, don't know what that is. Maybe it is a sinus cavity issue.

doesn't look like they have sinus cavities. Can you pick her up and hold her over your sink so she wouldn't inhale the water into her lungs but maybe flush out her nostril with some warm salty water? you know so her head is hanging down into the sink and not back ward where the water could go the wrong way, I don't know just trying to see if theres some way to help the poor girl breathe better.. Please don't try this though if you don't feel comfortable with it or don't think it would benefit her.

Actually, I just looked it up and it said they do have sinus cavities. I will try cleaning it after dinner, and maybe I will put her in the bathroom while I take a shower so the water vapor to make it easier to breath. I will try calling the vet back tomorrow and I will pick up some vitamins too. Thanks for all the help!

Bad news.

We cleaned out her wound, but we are pretty sure that when she was bitten her nasal cavity was punctured too. Causing blood to flow from her wound, straight into her lungs.

There is no telling how much blood is in there, and I don't think we would be able to treat it at home. The vet is pretty much out of the question, since it would probably cost us a small fortune and I don't even think the vets around here treat birds.

I put her in the bathroom while I took a shower, I didn't see any improvement, and towards the end she started coughing and sneezing. It sounded like a wet cough. I keep praying that she will pull through, but it just seems like we would need some kind of miracle. Sorry for the bad news, please send Rose your prayers!

the reason you didn't see an issue initailly is probably because the wound site hadn't swollen any. It's possible that she has some trauma to the neck and that is impeding her ability to breathe.
