Help, I found my chicken infested at the vent with tons of quick tiny white worms. I had noticed a few weeks back that my chicken had poopy butt. I checked her vent at that time and it looked nice, pink and healthy. Yesterday, I noticed the poopy butt looked a little worse and she seemed lethargic. When I checked her vent again, she had tons of tiny white worms crawling in and out of her vent. Her vent looked swollen and red. I got cleaned her vent, but unable to get rid of these worms. I got dewormer, and DE.
My biggest concern is I have been eating the eggs. (May have come from other chicken) and can My dog and cat contract these worms. Will my poor little chicken survive?

Worms are often fatal, so just keep doing the dewormer. I'm not a huge expert with worms, but it sounds like the worms you have aren't fully grown. They could be juvenile Capillary worms, Cecal worms, or Roundworms.

As for the eggs, I would recommend not eating them. You'd better check with a doctor.

the DE is a good wormer as is occasional raw diced garlic. make sure the chicken areas are clean. it wouldn't hurt to treat the water with vitamins to give your girls a boost. if one has it possibly more do. so give them all DE in their food.

They are maggots, not worms. Look up "fly strike."
DE is useless and a waste of money against maggots and worms, period.

I have the same problem..my chickens were fine and then started dying off..one of them this morning has worms all over the back end.. they are not maggots,, they are worms.. how do I get them off and what do I do to kill them?

Welcome to BYC! Can you post a picture?

To get them off you need to bring her inside and with warm water start cleaning her the area that they on.

Worms cannot survive outside the host. They are maggots, they WILL get bigger in time...watch and see.

They have roundworms. I just had to treat the entire flock after losing 5. This morning I moved one of them out of the coop and it was like her skin was gone and there were a ton of worms moving underneath what was left of skin. She was beyond help. It happened very quickly. She may have maggots now but that is not what I saw or caused this. Attached is a pic. GRAPHIC!!!!
