Hi. I own 11 chickens. I went out and one of my girls found string somewhere and got it wrapped around her foot and tongue. I think when it got caught on the tongue she tried to use her foot to pull it loose. it looks like she may have pulled some of her esophagus out. It was very swollen and dried out. I cut the string and washed her face and the bulbous area with water and she appears to be trying to drink the water. Will the swelling go down and her esophagus return to normal or is this lethal?

Welcome to BYC - sorry for the circumstances. That looks bad. I'd try holding cool, sugar coated compresses on the swollen tissue in an attempt to reduce the swelling. That's all that I can think of other than a trip to a veterinarian. Good luck in reducing the swelling.
