Hi there!
My husband and I found this in our yard today (see 3 pictures)The first two are what it looks like, I cut it open in the 3rd picture. We let our chickens roam in the yard sometimes but when we found it they were in the coop. I'm not sure if it's from the chickens but I don't know what else it could be from. I tried looking at different picture online but I'm not exactly sure what this is. Our chickens seem fine, 2 are young and haven't started laying and 1 was laying but appears to be molting now.
Help please!!

That looks like it might be a fungi to me. Something like a puff ball maybe. It doesn't look like anything from a chicken that's for sure, but photos can be deceptive. It is certainly not an intestine or ovary, as they look very, very different to that and it doesn't appear to be a lash egg which was the other thing I was guessing it might have been until I saw the photo.

It might be a puff ball mushroom of sorts. Ours around here have a solid white interior though and the texture of raw bread dough.

Maybe a puff ball that has matured?

I agree with @rebrascora. My first thought was lash egg but that doesn't look like a lash egg at all, especially in the pic where it was cut in half.

This is the time of the year for Puff ball mushrooms where we are.

I'd look up puff ball mushrooms that are found in your area and see if our guess is right.

BTW. Welcome to Back Yard Chickens from Missouri!
