Chicken just showed up?? ****NOW "Big Chickens Story" a story of a found chicken***lol

Two days ago I saw somethin in the woods on my property. Upon investigation turned out to be a strange chicken.

Wow, that is very strange.

I agree with the person below that maybe a hawk let her go. Or who knows, it someone may have known you have chickens and dumped their unwanted hen on your property. I'm sure she is traumatized from whatever happened, maybe a hawk, or maybe abusive owners. We'll probably never know. BTW She is definitely an Easter Egger. If you get some green or pink eggs you'll then know for sure.

I wouldn't keep searching for an owner, she is now a member of your family!

Just read this thread all the way through, and... wow! I was on the edge of the seat, wondering what would happen next. lol

So glad Big Chicken found her forever home with you. She's lovely, and has a gorgeous egg!

Amanda, just wanted to throw in an idea into the fray for helping you to help BC become tame...when BC is calm, and you have her already in your arms, and she seems no more than a tad squirmy, gently tuck her neck under your chin (but away from your face) with her head facing your shoulder so she can't quickly turn and peck you.

Try (very gently) stroke her outer ear (ear muff) area, so her eyes close in a relaxed, favorable manner. Monitor her mood closely to make sure she's liking this treatment, and also whisper very softly,"Shhh...it's okay...it's okay..." Even our rambunctious roos will stop squirming to hear what is being whispered to them and usually relax their eyes in a good way when I touch them on/near their ear muffs. lol We have also found this conditioning helpful in stressful situations because they will relax more quickly so we can do whatever needs to happen without panicking.

Does anyone know how to stop feather picking? My poor ee are getting picked on

It has just been very cold wet muddy and icy and slick...all in the same week lol. Lots of ice breaking then slugging through the mud and today we have freezing rain. All the trees are bowed down from it. BC has been laying some very nice eggs! After an issue with the coop light was fixed she has stuck to her lay two eggs take a day off routine. Our BO Lacy gives us six eggs a week and our other BO Goldie is on a marathon with 6 in a row so far! The reds are all getting nice combs in and red faces so we might start getting eggs from then sooner than I thought? They are only 4 1/2 months right now though. Rooster man has realized he is a rooster lol. His favorite hen is Goldie. And he seems to fancy duck lol. One of the ducks grew his drake tail so least I know I have one. I think I have another drake but not sure yet. And today is the Solstice!!!! YAAAAAYYYY

Thanks! I didn't realize that the post was old. (My bad LOL) Glad to see she's doing great and is laying beautiful green eggs! I bet someone dropped it off at your property because they didn't want her. That's just my theory.

Yeah the weather has been cold slick and now sloppy here too..
but it hit 60 yesterday.
Yeah on the eggs...all 15 of mine are laying...
Get at least a dozen everyday

YAY!!! I cant wait for the rest of my reds to start laying! I posted an add for people to get on the list for eggs in a few months but I must have posted to soon. :-( everyone else posted after me and undercut me lol. Might end up selling cakes instead next year! lol. One person listed his at 1.50 a dozen! I cant beat that at all. I wonder if I could donate them to a food pantry if I have to much? well see.
