Chicken keeps falling over! Help!

(I’ll do the same diet with my pullet whom I found hanging upside down by the foot. She’s back to normal except getting her foot wounds disinfected and dabbed with Neosporin gel nightly.)

I’ve decided to start Amoxicillin... her symptoms now are so similar to Margaret a few weeks ago (who is now 100%) How many days do I give it for? I hope the amoxi route is the right thing to do! Should I give vitamins as well along with Amoxi? 10 days right?

When I have a chicken that is lethargic, fluffed up, eyes dull, non-vocal, runny, scant poop, and I can't account for this behavior - molt, crop issue, stuck egg, I start an antibiotic. If another issue becomes suddenly obvious that explains the behavior, you can always stop the antibiotic, which I have happily done a time or two.

That’s exactly what’s going on... I can’t help but wonder if somehow she got it from Margaret who was sick a bit over a month ago... Gertie’s comb is looking a bit wilted and purplish too.. slightly. I’m glad I started the antibiotic tonight Thank you all again so much. Chicken keeping isn’t easy!

Do you think this could be coccidia.. (sp).. minus the bloody poop the symptoms are very similar. Can I use Corid and antibiotics at same time? Is there one more important? I have given one antibiotic so far...

She seems a bit better this morning..good days and bad days I suppose. Always grateful for good! She is enjoying some yogurt with her best friend this morning. Maybe that one amoxi started her in right direction!

Antibiotics and Corid are often given together to combat bacterial infection in the intestines caused by coccidia eroding the lining. It's never a bad idea to treat with Corid if you suspect even a tiny bit that coccidiosis is in your flock.

Hi everyone! I had so much luck with my last sick girl I came back for a new issue! My 8-9 month old Buff Orpington woke this morning not being able to walk without falling over. She is standing but cannot walk without falling. She was totally fine yesterday! Her comb is bright red.. drinking but not eating. She seems alert and normal, pupils are very dilated but maybe because she is in the house. She is eating a bit too if I put food up high so she doesn’t have to bend. She seems totally fine outside of the fact that she cannot walk. Could she be egg bound? Everyone in flock is fine... only changes.. been cold and snowy.. I added a hay bale to run yesterday... from feed store. Could it be poison? That may sound silly.. just so worried. Any help would be appreciated please! So worried about my Gertrude!

I actually have a similar problem with one of my hens--maybe it has been going around a lot lately...yikes! U should isolate her immediately from the other hens (and rooster if u have one) I u go to the search engine of BYC and search "Ryan A" (my profile) u will see a thread I made yesterday called Varicella chicken--help! I accidently said Varicella, but I meant Marek's! I think our chickens have Marek's disease and that it is spreading like Covid! PLease do what I said about isolating her because that is pretty darn important so that the other birds don't catch it because Marek's is super-duper contagious! Over and out!
