Chicken killing Fox!!!! HELP!!

That's a good idea.
My husband and I love all animals,we can't just kill a healthy wild animal...I love my chickens, there is nothing I won't do to protect them but killing another animal is something I can't do...thanks to everyone who suggested electric fencing...that's the route we're going.
Regarding trapping and relocating,I can't agree with that because taking an animal out of its "home range" and depositing it somewhere unfamiliar and with no idea of the new territory or predators...I just couldn't do that.

Dont kill the fox. Buy or borrow a live trap and then have dwr pick it up or relocate it yourself. Thats just my opinion though. Good luck!

sorry but that is much harder and more cruel to the animal then to just give in a quick shot to the head. most relocated animals die either do to not knowing where water and food are and two your just giving some else your problem animal.

I won't kill or relocate the fox....essentially I'm encroaching on "their territory "... I will do everything possible to protect my chickens but I won't kill a wild animal.

Simply not true. Based on all discussions here I spoke to a licensed trapper and as long as the animal is not sick, there are no issues with legally relocating healthy animals. They do fine. It is done here with coyotes all the time. Some of the animals are tracked to keep tabs and to study relocation. They were very much in disagreement with killing versus relocating. Animals are very adaptable creatures.

I'm not discounting your trappers advice at all but trappers are not wildlife experts,if a wild animal is abruptly taken out of its "known range and environment " They would be completely blind, new territory, unknown predators...no familial contact,I don't know if relocation is a cure or a death sentence.

Different states have different rules on animal relocation, depending on the species, and current disease issues. It's not good to make blanket recommendations across state lines, because conditions differ.
Everyone needs to check with their state DNR first!
